A number of years ago a friend gave me Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Although it was many years before I found my way to church membership, through the teachings of this book I was able to settle inharmonious relationships and overcome physical problems.

At one time severe pains in my knee made walking difficult. At night I could not rest. With eagerness I started to read all the Christian Science literature I could, and spent my wakeful nights in prayer. I also had assistance from a Christian Science practitioner. These statements sustained me: "Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not" (Ps. 17:5) and "God is the lawmaker, but He is not the author of barbarous codes" (Science and Health, p. 381). It occurred to me that I should try to forget a mortal self with its problems and obey the words of this psalm (46:10): "Be still, and know that I am God."

I had a time of rest and study in a Christian Science House in England. In that peaceful atmosphere there was so much kindness that I am sure this laid the foundation for my eventual healing.
