Over fifty years ago our family was introduced to Christian Science

Over fifty years ago our family was introduced to Christian Science. At that time, I manifested symptoms of rheumatic fever. The doctor attending my case tried for a month or longer to correct the condition with internal medicine. But I continued to get weaker and seemed either to lie in a coma or toss in delirium.

My mother was a trained medical nurse and managed to keep me reasonably comfortable, but she grew frustrated and despondent over my lack of improvement. Eventually, she decided to try Science and wrote to her aunt, who was a Christian Science practitioner.

This woman promptly dispelled the illusion that we could be benefited by seeking an answer through material medicine and prayer. She referred us to Christ Jesus' statement in Matthew (6:24): "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." We knew that we wanted to serve God.
