LETTERS TO THE PRESS
From Christian Science Committees on Publication
Ever wondered why the press so frequently drifts into describing Christian Science as positive thinking or a mental technique?
Mrs. Eddy explains (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 4): "At this period there is a marked tendency of mortal mind to plant mental healing on the basis of hypnotism, calling this method 'mental science.'" We can see, then, that mortal mind outlines its own mesmeric view even when it is casually discussing Christian Science. Not surprisingly, it discounts the role of God, Mind, and asserts instead that healing power belongs to mortal mind.
It's clear, therefore, that correction is more than a matter of providing information. The scientific prayer that gives all power to God— including full power to reverse and nullify the mesmeric tendency— continues to be essential. In The Oregon Observer
