Ebenezer experiences dispel fear

Events can be made to serve the overcoming of fear, rather than the building of it. There are things we can do to reap confidence and courage from every occurrence. Even unhappy ones can teach us lessons. "Experience is victor," Mrs. Eddy tells us, "never the vanquished; and out of defeat comes the secret of victory." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 339;

If there is something legitimate to do, and we refuse because we are afraid, we are serving fear. Obeying fear, we forfeit the experiences that destroy it.

As we courageously do the things that come to us to do, we will have the experiences that impress our lives with God's love. These become landmarks, such as the stone Samuel set at a place of victory and called Ebenezer, "saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us." 1 Sam. 7:12; "Hitherto" instances are wonderful aids to courage. The time-after-time occasions of knowing God's help build a deep, unshakable faith in the supremacy of good, and replace anxiety with confidence.
