When I was still a teen-ager I lived with a relative who was very ill. He was visited by a friend who had been healed in Christian Science of diabetes. Although this made an impression on us, we did not take up the study of Science at that time.
Two years later some ugly, painful sores appeared on my arm. The doctors did everything possible for me, but the treatment brought no improvement. A maid in my sister-in-law's home saw me weep in despair. She offered me Christian Science as a cure for my arm. The next day we went to a testimony meeting in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. The love I felt, and the assurance that here I had truly found God, were the first steps in my healing.
A Christian Science practitioner prayed for me and helped me understand that sickness is no part of real being, for God creates good only. His effective prayer destroyed all evidence of the disease. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 224): "The power of God brings deliverance to the captive. No power can withstand divine Love." In the years since this healing, each step of spiritual progress has been marked by the correction of human conduct in all aspects of my life.
