About two years ago I injured my leg and knee, which made it impossible to walk or stand comfortably. There were moments when the pain seemed unbearable. I found some relief through prayer and study of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, and I was able to fulfill daily responsibilities. But complete freedom did not come.
At one point, when the discomfort was especially severe, I used an elastic knee support. But this only increased the pain, and I decided to discard it.
As I prayed one day, I came across these words in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 167): "The scientific government of the body must be attained through the divine Mind. It is impossible to gain control over the body in any other way." I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner and ask for treatment through prayer. As we spoke she emphasized the fact that life is not organic. She asked me to study Mrs. Eddy's answer to the question "What is organic life?" found on page 56 of Miscellaneous Writings. Within an hour the pain was gone, and I had normal use of my knee and leg.
