When I first began the study of Christian Science, I had...
When I first began the study of Christian Science, I had healings of chain smoking, social drinking, profanity, and an irresponsible approach to life. The undesirable habits and attitudes melted away as I began to understand my relationship to God. Other healings came too, such as effects of a car accident, colds, headaches, backache, and influenza. All of these healings occurred quickly when I glimpsed the fact that since God is Mind, and man is Mind's idea, man derives his being from this great source, omnipotent good.
In spite of these blessings and the truths I was learning, I still needed to learn more about trusting God completely. I reasoned that if a serious problem ever did occur, which perhaps wasn't healed easily through prayer in Christian Science, I could always turn to material medicine for help.
At about this time, I began to periodically suffer frightening dizziness and blurred vision. I was maintaining a strenuous schedule, teaching six classes a day in a junior high school. It became increasingly difficult for me to get through each school day, and I found myself praying for the day to go quickly so that I might go home and rest.
