After my wife's passing, I felt a deep loss and became depressed and ill. I was sent to a specialist for a cardiac examination, and tests indicated a condition of angina. This only added to my other troubles, as I was already receiving treatment for nervous debility, insomnia, and headaches, and I was always in fear of the return of a previous distressing ailment.

At this time I was introduced to a Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to treat me through prayer. I started going to a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and was given literature to read. I was already reading Science and Health by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I did not know then that I was on my way to a happier, healthier, and holier way of life.

I moved to another district, where regular branch church attendance continued. After some time I again asked a practitioner for help. One day I went to the medicine chest and destroyed all the medicines and tablets. I had not taken any of them for a long time but was keeping them as a last resort. Now I made my stand for total reliance on Christian Science healing and left my health in the care of God, good. My thought was becoming spiritualized, and I knew that God, the preserver of man, would protect me. This proved to be so, for the various illnesses were all healed. Through the years my problems have been resolved through prayer, sometimes with the help of a practitioner.
