Some years ago, I was healed of a painful condition in my side. It had plagued me off and on for quite some time, and although I had relief on several occasions through the prayer of a Christian Science practitioner, the problem persisted. The difficulty was never medically diagnosed.

At one point during this time I felt a desire to understand God better, so I turned to the Bible and to Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to learn more of Him. I remember how peaceful and happy I was during the quiet evenings I spent in this study. A statement by Mrs. Eddy on page 390 of Science and Health was helpful to me in putting my dominion over this condition on the right basis: "We cannot deny that Life is self-sustained, and we should never deny the everlasting harmony of Soul, simply because, to the mortal senses, there is seeming discord. It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony."

It was during my term as First Reader in a Christian Science Society that the physical healing came about. My husband's job changed, and we moved to a town where we became active in a small but growing society. And soon after, I had the blessing of class instruction in Christian Science.
