When we more fully understand and actively express the first commandment (Ex. 20:3), "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," we can see the power of the Word and of the Christ, Truth, heal any discord and establish the harmony that is always truly there.

At one time a small blemish appeared on my leg. I dismissed it as being insignificant, but some days later I was presented with a frightening picture. The blemish had spread to other areas of the body, and there was much discomfort. I now began prayer to gain my freedom from this error. I declared the absolute authority of God and sought to better understand His omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience, bringing this understanding of God's supremacy to bear on the erroneous condition.

I was able to continue my regular activities, including work as a university instructor. However, one evening the condition worsened. I prayed through most of the night, listening for God's guidance. His angel thoughts flooded my consciousness. I rejected all fear, and as I did, the consciousness of God, good, obliterated any temptation to ascribe a material cause for this physical discord. I held to the thought that God is the only cause and creator. It was enough to know that the discord was not caused by God, and therefore it was unreal. I read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 400), "When we remove disease by addressing the disturbed mind, giving no heed to the body, we prove that thought alone creates the suffering." I refrained from thinking of myself as an individual mortal trying to make a physical disease go away. Rather, I yielded to the power of the Christ, Truth, which is ever asserting itself. With this I fell asleep.
