To heal, start with God
If we are to heal spiritually and scientifically, it is necessary—yes, mandatory—to begin with God. The reason is simple: unless we know and understand Him, we have little foundation from which to start. Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health, "The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle." Science and Health, p. 275;
In praying for ourselves or others we will find our effort most effective when we first take time to establish a clear realization of who God is and what He is doing. It is vitally important to ponder the great facts of Deity, to see with increasing clarity that God is the Supreme Being, perfect, good, and eternal. He is infinite, universal, unopposed. These are not just theoretical, unproved statements; they are divine truths, which, when understood, will lead to the overcoming of every problem or affliction known to mankind.
How do we gain the needed comprehension of God? Study, contemplation, and prayer are important avenues. In the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, as well as in Mrs. Eddy's other writings, we can find all we need to know. Gaining the understanding we seek requires persistence and hard work; but the reward is priceless. We learn with joy that spiritual good is never ending, for God is infinite and so is the understanding of Him.
