Christian Science has been my only help in healing physical ills for quite a number of years. Just to mention a few of these healings: heart trouble, nervous breakdown, sick headaches, pain in limbs, toothache. At the age of two years I was healed of high fever instantaneously, when my mother was relieved of great fear after she had called a Christian Science practitioner for help.

Consistent study and application of this Science have convinced me that when a spiritual understanding of God and man's relationship to Him is properly applied, healings take place as a natural result. Not long ago I was losing an unusual amount of hair, especially when washing it. With great despair I noticed that the condition became worse from day to day, and fear of losing all my hair crept in. During this time I began to realize the perfection and completeness of my true spiritual selfhood, in which nothing could be lost. However, as my concern about the appearance of my hair increased and the condition became still worse, the temptation of using material means overwhelmed me.

I bought a bottle of hair tonic. After applying it only once, I saw how futile it was to rely on both spiritual and material means for healing. I asked myself, "What do I believe in? Do I really believe in the power and presence of God? Do I endeavor to understand more about my real being instead of wasting time by giving thought to material means?" Suddenly it occurred to me that Mrs. Eddy uses the word "tonic" in her book Science and Health. She writes (p. 420): "The fact that Truth overcomes both disease and sin reassures depressed hope. It imparts a healthy stimulus to the body, and regulates the system. It increases or diminishes the action, as the case may require, better than any drug, alterative, or tonic."
