There I was, overwhelmed by tears—worried about our financial situation. (We'd had no income for five months.) Suddenly I looked up, looked around the apartment, and started thinking about all we had—and how grateful I should be. After all, so many people have less!
That's when it hit me like a bolt of lightning. What am I doing? Am I identifying others in terms of poverty and lack? So many times I've thought about the world's less fortunate people. But now I saw that instead of being grateful for what just I have, I should be realizing that each and every one of us is God's child. Could anything but good go on in God's creation? Whatever is true for me is true for everyone. I don't have any monopoly on God's care. A second thought that kept coming to me was, "Thy kingdom is come." These words are part of the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, p. 16):
