My daughter gave me Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and it has only been a short time since I began reading it. I understand Christian Science only a little bit. But my daughter has long been studying Christian Science very earnestly, and occasionally she has lovingly explained it to me. Thus I learned that man is the child of God and therefore is spiritual. And I learned too how to begin proving that matter has no power.

One day, as usual, I began to prepare our supper. I fried tempura, which the family enjoys. While I was frying, for some reason the oil became extremely hot and spilled over my hand. It was so hot I screamed, "It hurts!" I naturally held my hand and fervently prayed, "Dear God, please heal me. I have to use this hand now. Show me that burn is a lie about man and that matter has no power to injure him." I put a small bandage on where the oil spilled most, and continued praying as I kept frying. Then what do you think happened? The excruciating pain disappeared, and I could put my hand into the water and was free of any painful sensation. There were no blisters, and my hand was healed. I myself was surprised at the power of God and I was filled with unspeakable gratitude. Through this healing I have been able to feel the presence of God and to learn His practical power and wonder.

When my daughter came home, I told her what had happened, and she rejoiced with me, "How wonderful! Mother, wasn't it good!"
