THE COLLECTABLE AND UNCOLLECTABLES
I proudly put my record on the spindle of personal sense
and turned up the volume.
"I was right and you were wrong," so went the lyrics
of my favorite song.
"Someone was wrong and it wasn't me."
Oh, I listened to that record frequently.
Then I realized there was a flip side I hadn't heard before.
It was called "Now Who's in the Wrong?"
and I didn't like its tone
But I got the message. It was quite clear.
Any wrong is mine if I've given it ear.
If somewhere there's a fool—if with that I can agree,
then I've taken error in, and the foolish one is me.
I'm throwing out the old records
and now have as my goal
Listening more intently to the harmonies of Soul.
Oh, I'm tempted to listen, but not for long
to an old melody, an old self-righteous song.
But I'm building a new, a most priceless collection—
One God,
One good, guiding
Every selection.
