"God is . . . a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1)

"God is . . . a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1). I came to understand the meaning of these words of the Psalmist when I had to face the sudden, unexpected passing of my husband. I sincerely prayed to God to sustain my daughters and me at this bitter time.

I immediately called a Christian Science practitioner, who came to our home. Her prayerful metaphysical work and her loving words helped us understand that we were the perfect daughters of God and that He was watching over us at all times.

A few hours after this bitter trial I discovered that my youngest daughter was on the verge of a breakdown. In spite of the disturbing claims of mortal mind, I sought refuge in God even more earnestly and denied the symptoms of a breakdown that appeared so real. The Christian Science practitioner took up the prayerful work again, and the error faded — returned to nothing. My daughter's fear of lack and of being forsaken was destroyed. Free of illness, and reflecting her perfect being in God, in a few days she was able to take a difficult examination at school, and she was able to continue her studies normally. In addition, we have never suffered lack of any kind; and, in fact, we were enriched on seeing ourselves surrounded with the expression by others of the Christly thoughts of sincerity and love.
