"From a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (II Tim. 3:15). As a child, I enjoyed the happy activity of attending Christian Science Sunday School. When I was about eleven, an opportunity came for me to prove, by myself, the truth of what I had been learning there.

At that time a number of warts appeared on my hands. Embarrassed, I began to keep my hands behind me or hidden in my pockets whenever possible at school. My mother prayed for the right healing thought and asked a Christian Science practitioner for help, but all to no apparent avail. Finally, after some time, she pointed out to me that I, too, had to participate in this Christian Science treatment, that I was old enough to do my share. I had to be willing to stop complaining and turn my thought to God. She encouraged me to do the healing work myself, saying that neither she nor the practitioner would give me prayerful treatment unless I asked for their help.

This was all I needed to begin to pray, acknowledging God's goodness and my own nature as the happy reflection of this goodness — truths I had learned in Sunday School. Gone were the embarrassment and complaining, which had only impressed the condition more firmly in my thought. And, within two weeks, gone were the warts — never to return.
