God is man's real environment
"Safe in the substance of Soul"
Those who study the Bible in the light of Christian Science are learning that the faith and spiritual understanding which protected God's followers in those days are ever available wherever we may be.
The realm of spiritual consciousness should be the habitual dwelling place of the true Christian, and in the measure that he stays in this consciousness he experiences divine guidance and protection. This spiritually mental realm is "the secret place of the most High" Ps. 91:1; of which the Psalmist speaks. And he also declares, "Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." vv. 9, 10;
Christ Jesus was aware of changeless safety right in the face of threatening danger. Nothing disturbed the deep stillness of his thought and his clear sense of unity with God. Jesus was certain that his true individuality, the Christ, was forever safe in the bosom of the Father, untouched by evil of any kind. "Formed and governed by God," Mrs. Eddy writes, "this individuality was safe in the substance of Soul, the substance of Spirit,—yea, the substance of God, the one inclusive good."
