THE MASTERPIECE
I had a vision in my heart
To help humanity
By something I could do
—I'd draw.
I thought to draw a piteous, wretched man,
—held by the sod;
I thought to bring compassion to the hearts
Of all who saw.
My dream
Will never quite come off. It's odd—
Try as I may to draw a fallen man
When I have done
It's always just the same:
In healing love I've captured him—
The glorious child of God!
