Glimpsing a higher purpose on a vacation trip

Opportunities for Prayer

Driving long after dark in a heavy rainstorm over unfamiliar roads to find a suitable place to stay—this was a challenge for our family on a camping vacation. A mental pause for spiritual refreshment, even while the storm continued, lifted our thought above any uncertainty and fear. We knew that God, as divine Mind, is guiding and controlling all His children and this truth could be demonstrated in greater freedom and abundant blessings. Spiritual man in God's likeness—harmonious and satisfied—can be recognized as the only reality right where appearances of discord and lack aggressively suggest the contrary. Because divine Mind governs all, all His ideas are blessed and cared for. We knew that a persistent affirmation of spiritual truth could open the way to concordant experience.

We found a pleasant camping place, and the rain stopped temporarily. A nearby camper supplied light to help us pitch our large tent.

Camping enables many families to enjoy economical and interesting vacations. Nevertheless, in Christian Science there is no vacation from our responsibilities as alert scientific Christians to defend ourselves against the limiting claims of mortal mind as well as to obey our duty to love God and all His children.
