With joy and great gratitude, I should like to give this testimony of a healing in Christian Science that took place over thirty-five years ago.

After a nervous collapse, I continued for seven years to seek liberation from the illness. I had lost faith in the doctors, and I threw the medicine away because I saw that it couldn't help me. I had been told that I would not be able to work again at my job in the business world. I suffered a great deal from headaches, which were often severe. I lived at home with my parents. When my father died, I had to support myself and to resume my business activities. However, illnesses also again presented themselves. I was desperate. My attention was then called to this healing religion, and I looked up a Christian Science practitioner. I still clearly remember his showing to me in a loving, fatherly way, after I had poured out my heart, that my need was to begin to get rid of wrong and negative thoughts. He compared it to clearing out a room full of useless rubbish.

I had had a Christian upbringing, and when I was sick I often did some reading in the New Testament. I looked for God. I thought I didn't want Christ Jesus as a mediator, as he was said to be; I only wanted to go direct to God. All my life I had sought the meaning of existence. Doubts had taken hold of me, and because I was ill so much of the time, life didn't make any sense to me.
