Man Is Never Alone

Christ Jesus said, "The Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him." John 8:29; No one needs to feel lonely or alone. No one needs to feel he has to bear the burdens of the world all by himself. God, divine Love, has never left any of His sons and daughters to face life in loneliness.

The recognition that God is always and everywhere with us can dissolve any sense of our being alone. And it can do more. It can bring to us whatever support, whatever help, whatever human companionship we need in whatever form will best meet our need humanly and spiritually.

The prophet Elijah once felt he was alone and that even his own countrymen were out to kill him. But his spiritual sense of God's presence reasserted itself; he became aware of the divine assurance that there were still thousands in Israel who weren't idolaters. Each one of us can have the same support Elijah did, whether we need only one friend or a thousand or just a keener sense of God being with us. "The Christian Scientist," Mrs. Eddy writes, "is alone with his own being and with the reality of things." Message to The Mother Church for 1901, p. 20; What more complete companionship could we need than "the reality of things"?
