Though members of my family were not Christian Scientists,...

Though members of my family were not Christian Scientists, I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School at age twelve. My mother loved Christian Science and wanted it for her family. The dedication and love of my teachers and the lessons learned during the next eight years, until I was twenty, inspired me to join the church. This teaching supported me in my public school and social activities. The understanding that God is Mind helped me in an office career. Through thirteen years of government employment I advanced from a temporary summer job as clerk-typist to positions as confidential secretary in very high areas of classification.

During those working years I often wondered if marriage and family were ever going to come. Always I prayed for God's guidance. I cherished this Bible verse (Phil. 4:8): "Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." These qualities for companionship and marriage were essential. Unexpectedly, a young man possessing many of these qualities came to work in my office, and we were married within a few months.

Our marriage has been blessed with harmony and great growth in spiritual understanding. My husband was not a Christian Scientist but came to love it when we attended church services as a family, and he has become a church member. Our three girls were in the nursery as infants and are now in the Sunday School. We have enjoyed our branch church activities, and the added joy of class instruction together.
