"I want to be big!"
Johnny didn't like Sunday School. He'd rather stay home Sunday mornings and play. He thought Sunday School was stupid—kid stuff. He wanted to be big and tough.
So at Sunday School Johnny would try to show everybody how big he was. He'd be the noisiest kid in class. He'd cause the most trouble. One day he even started to kick his teacher—hard!
Johnny was old enough to know better. He was almost five. And that Sunday he was in for a surprise. Mr. Murray, the superintendent, was reading aloud a verse in the Responsive Reading in the Christian Science Quarterly, while at the same time keeping an eye on what Johnny was doing. Anyway, while the rest of the Sunday School were reading aloud the next verse, Mr. Murray quickly came down from the desk, whispered something to Mr. Davis, the teacher of the older kids, and led him over to sit with Johnny. Mr. Murray did all that and still got back to the desk in time to read his next verse.
