Turning wholeheartedly to God
Are You Claiming the Good at Hand as Yours?
There is no greater opportunity than to claim good as ours—as belonging to all. To do this we must start with God and know that He alone is the source of all good; therefore good is infinite and is right here. An awareness of this, even in a small degree, promotes peace, joy, love, patience, and inspiration.
The prophets proved good to be present and practical in time of need. Elisha found this supreme good right at hand after Elijah's translation. As he stood on the bank of Jordan he felt the urge to go forward. There was no time to waste in discouragement and self-pity. He took the mantle that had fallen from Elijah and asked, "Where is the Lord God of Elijah?" The Bible continues, "And when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over." II Kings 2:14; So, today, we need never be without a consciousness of God's goodness with which to smite the troubled waters.
The law of Mind is infallible, and it can be applied confidently by one who has established his unity with God as Mind. This relationship shows him how to discern the spiritual idea needed, and the material symbol appears in the supplying of the human need. A symbol may be a means of leading our thought into the spiritual realm of unfathomable Mind where demonstration is the result of spiritual law. Elisha must have realized this after his last experience with Elijah, for later on, to the woman whose two sons were about to be taken into bondage by her creditors, he proved unlimited good to be at hand. He asked, "What hast thou in the house?" She answered, "Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil." 4:2; Then he proceeded to demonstrate the good at hand in a way that she could comprehend—an unfailing pot of oil.
