ONE GOT INVOLVED

Pearl Strachan Hurd

The young man talked.
They listened,
that crowd on the seashore.
Nothing in the remedy he offered
would later collapse
into agonizing desire
or enslaving habit.

New wine for new bottles!
This Jew had rejected Judaic
strictures, lived also untouched
by pagan myths of Roman occupation;
showed how all come alive
in Christ—forever
and forever.
