I want to express my gratitude for Christian Science and for the beautiful care and protection we have had raising our family. We have four children, all of whom are members of The Mother Church, three of whom are branch church members and class-taught students. We have relied on Christian Science completely in raising our family and are grateful for the divine direction and protection we have had all during their growing and maturing years. Turning to the divine Mind for direction eliminated conflicts that sometimes arise during the course of growing up and at times make child and parent seem to be at cross-purposes.

I would like to share a healing I had during this busy and demanding time of my life. One evening while bathing I discovered a very large lump on my thigh in the groin area. I did not think too much about it until some time later, when it became quite painful. I was employed in a position that required my being on my feet a good deal and it was difficult to walk. I became quite fearful, not so much for myself but for the future of our children. I was concerned for their welfare should anything happen to me. No one, I felt, would understand their individual needs as I did, nor spend time with them as I did.

I had taken class instruction in Christian Science the year before, so I went to see my teacher. I explained the problem to him and asked him what he saw in my thought that needed correction. He quietly and calmly said, "It is nothing, Donna." I understood what he meant—that it was nothing because matter is nothing more than the subjective state of mortal thought. Mortal thought, not emanating from God, has no actuality of existence; therefore it is nothing.
