When I was left a widow and the sole support of my small children, it seemed very difficult to face the problems of raising a family alone. However, through study of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I was learning of God's infinite goodness and of man's true spiritual relationship to Him.

I had not worked for years and the thought of job hunting seemed terrifying. But a friend—an attorney and lifelong student of Christian Science—encouraged me to begin work immediately and, in fact, offered me a job in his law office for a few weeks.

I gratefully accepted the offer and in two weeks found a position which I was told would be temporary. As the weeks passed, I was hopeful that it would be permanent. Then one noontime my employer told me funds allocated in the budget for temporary help were depleted, and they would have to let me go. This was during an economic recession and I was overwhelmed with fear. I thought of my attorney friend who had helped me before, and hurried to his office. I found the door locked and, overcome with despair, I began to cry.
