Our Present Freedom

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free." Gal. 5:1; Here St. Paul declares a present liberty. As we stand fast in this present spiritual liberty, it ensures to us all lesser liberties.

The coming week marks the anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln, the great and good American who ended institutionalized slavery in the United States. But legal emancipation is only a start. The work of liberation, for individuals and society, goes forward on many levels, physical, moral, mental, and spiritual.

Mrs. Eddy's lifework was one of liberation. Her book Science and Health has a chapter called "Footsteps of Truth"—the same Truth that Christ Jesus said would make men free. This chapter includes essential guidance for all escaping from the slavery of the belief that man is physical, limited, and destructible into the understanding that man is wholly spiritual, indestructible, and free.
