Christian Science has been my only physician since I was ten...
Christian Science has been my only physician since I was ten, when my parents enrolled me in the Christian Science Sunday School. I shall always be grateful for the instruction I received, and my love for Christ Jesus and for Mrs. Eddy that was nurtured there. We were taught in Sunday School how to put to practical use the truths learned.
After graduating from high school I had a nervous condition and was forced to give up piano lessons and other work I was doing, because of lack of coordination of movement. My Sunday School teacher, who was also a Christian Science practitioner, worked with me. The condition would yield for a while and then return. There were many faults of disposition to overcome, and I had to express more love for God as well as consideration of those around me. My Sunday School teacher and my mother made arrangements for me to enter the Christian Science Benevolent Association, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The love and harmony expressed there inspired me with expectation of healing. With the help of a local practitioner I was well within two weeks and returned home entirely free. My life was changed, and later I married a former pupil from the same Christian Science Sunday School.
Some fifteen years later I became ill with asthma. Through my own prayerful work and at times through the help of a practitioner, the condition would yield for a time. Once during a severe attack coupled with symptoms of pneumonia, I was lapsing into unconsciousness. The suggestion to pass on was very strong as offering the easiest way out. Before I could give consent to die, an inner conviction came to me of the omnipresence of our Father-Mother God: "There is no place to pass on to. I am as present with You right now as I ever will be."
