We Do Have a Choice!

Suppose you were confronted with a decree that for the next two weeks you must go around on all fours. What would you do? One thing you probably wouldn't do is submit to it! Most likely you would dismiss the whole idea as absurd.

Mankind are confronted daily with unfounded decrees. We are conditioned to believe that exposure, accident, age, or overwork can compel us to spend a certain amount of time lying on our backs, hobbling, aching, coughing, or sneezing. Surprisingly, most of us submit to these impositions without even a protest. Why? Because a majority of us are convinced that in matters of health we simply have no choice.

In contradiction of this majority opinion Christian Science teaches that we do have a choice and that we have scriptural authority for asserting our right to make it. At the very outset the Scriptures present us with two basic alternatives—two opposite accounts of creation. Daily, hourly, we have a choice between the spiritual, God-centered concept of creation and its chaotic material opposite.
