The Rescue

Doug and Don lived in a town where the mountains were green in summer, and the boys loved to hike and ride on the mountain trails. In the winter the mountains were even more beautiful with their towering snowcapped peaks.

One day their mother thought it would be fun to take a drive over the pass and see the white peaks. The car was warm and Comfortable and seemed to float over the snow-hardened surface. The boys were singing and laughing and at times were discussing things that they had learned from the book called Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. Doug always carried the little book in his pocket. He and Don had learned about the book in the Christian Science Sunday School. Although their mother was not a Christian Scientist, she liked to hear the boys talk about the things they learned in Sunday School.

They started on their way back much later than they should have on a short winter day, with darkness falling early and the cliff road not easy to see.
