The Maturity of Being

Revealing the completeness of Life, God, and its creation as the present actuality—that Life is infinite, never embryonic—Christian Science introduces mankind to a fresh approach to living.

Human beings need to mature. Luke tells us, "Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man." Luke 2:52; On what basis can our maturing best be achieved? That of spiritual apprehension, the knowledge that reality is not growing into more than it is right now. Man, Church, consciousness, business, home, in their spiritual essence are never embryonic. They never have any stunted or stunting elements.

Christ Jesus saw infinite Life and the maturity of being as present fact. He did not speculate on possibilities and potentials but grasped and lived the underlying truths of being. "Jesus required neither cycles of time nor thought in order to mature fitness for perfection and its possibilities," Mary Baker Eddy points out. "He said that the kingdom of heaven is here, and is included in Mind; that while ye say, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest, I say, Look up, not down, for your fields are already white for the harvest; and gather the harvest by mental, not material processes." Unity of Good, pp. 11-12;
