I am grateful that one can be healed through the power of Christian Science even though he does not realize it or fully understand the benefit received.

During the Korean War I was a student pilot engaged in military flight training. At one point I was suffering from a cold, which had resulted in a perforated eardrum, and I was grounded. The flight surgeon predicted the recovery would take some time and stated I should be prepared to be "washed back" several classes because of the time I would miss from flight training. He also added that if the ear didn't heal properly, I might be "washed out" of the flight program altogether.

As I had a medical history of chronic ear trouble, I was greatly distressed. At the time, I was going with a girl who was a student of Christian Science. I knew nothing about Science. My girl friend saw I was suffering not only from the effects of a heavy cold but from my concern about my inability to finish the flight program. I was so near graduation; to have come so far and then to have an ear problem jeopardize my hard work was disappointing to say the least.
