When I was a child of ten my mother, who was quite ill, noticed a newspaper article on Mrs. Eddy and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health. Mother sent me to the public library to ask for the book. She was soon healed, and she did not have to have the operation the doctor had insisted was necessary to save her life. Shortly thereafter we left our orthodox church to attend the branch Church of Christ, Scientist, where we lived. There was never a return of the difficulty, and Mother lived to be over eighty.

I had the privilege of attending Christian Science Sunday School, for which I have always been grateful, and at the age of sixteen I joined the church.

Later I married and moved to another state. My young husband and I were wonderfully protected at the time of a fire, which destroyed the town. Even though he was ill, we were able to get on the last train to leave. The fire was in our backyard as we ran down the hill to the train. We took nothing except the clothes we were wearing and my Bible, which I carried with my finger marking the ninety-first Psalm.
