Christian Science is at the center of my life

Christian Science is at the center of my life. The healings I have had have been inspiring. Protection from harm and incapacity has been one of the greatest reasons for my gratitude to God—to Truth and Love proved relevant in Christian Science. It was this gratitude that brought me around to rejoining The Mother Church after I had dropped out during a period in the military service. I had come to believe I should make my own decisions to suit my inclinations without regard for God's law. I found, of course, that dependence on matter for pleasure or stability is a vain hope.

As a small child I fell twenty feet from a tree, landing on my face. I was unharmed because the ground underneath was freshly cultivated and acted as a cushion. I was not frightened. I have since thought of this as an example of God's protection, which was daily sought through prayer for all the family by my mother, a hardworking Christian Scientist.

During a so-called "polio scare," one summer at the beach I complained of inability to move my legs. This situation was so quickly destroyed through prayer that I hardly recall the incident. As Mrs. Eddy says on page 229 of Miscellaneous Writings, "If only the people would believe that good is more contagious than evil, since God is omnipresence, how much more certain would be the doctor's success, and the clergyman's conversion of sinners."
