Help for the Battered
The case of the "battered wife" (or child, or husband) is cause for concern in many countries. Alarming statistics have been made public, and the question has been taken up by various civic authorities. How much can the average private citizen do to help? I learned quite a lesson about this recently.
I was awakened in the night by a woman's scream, and rushed to the window to see what help was needed. There I saw a man kicking a woman. As she lay on the ground, he seemed to be preparing another attack.
Quicker than it takes to write this, it flashed through my thought that it would take too long to call the police. Almost in the same moment I reached out in prayer to God, declaring with great conviction that divine Love is all around; that nothing but Love exists; that there is only one Mind, and that Mind is Love, is forever at peace, forever loving; that man reflects this peaceful Mind; that he can never be possessed by an evil mind; never injure or be injured, destroy or be destroyed; that there is only God and His precious family, at peace with Him and with one another.
