No Need to Be Shy
(written at age 10)
I learned the Golden Rule when I was five years old at a Christian Science Sunday School. My teacher gave me a piece of paper that told me to look in St. Matthew, Chapter 7, verse 12: "All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." I kept the piece of paper with my Bible so that I would always be able to find these words of Christ Jesus.
One day, when I was seven years old, a visitor came to our home. At first I wasn't very friendly, as I was feeling shy. Then I remembered this Golden Rule and thought how I like people to talk to me, so I must also talk to them—and I did! Now I know I need never be shy anymore.
