"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" (II Cor. 5:17). Christian Science has renewed me and given me a wonderful new basis for spiritually understanding my true identity.

Less than three years ago, when I was a young married college graduate, my thinking was in a state of great confusion. I had been existing on diet pills for several years, and this led to increased usage of drugs. A lot of the time I didn't even know what the pill was that I was taking. Pills were my means for existing. This was all I lived for, and I would even steal to obtain them. I was taking them all day long. This resulted in a severe nervous breakdown and many strange compulsions and food obsessions. I lost a great amount of weight in less than two months and weighed around seventy-four pounds.

At this point, suffering from severe malnutrition, I was placed in a mental institution as a mental and physical wreck. It was medically pronounced that I could collapse and die at any moment. This was how it was when a friend of the family asked if she could help me through her knowledge of Christian Science.
