Poise or Panic?

Some aspects of life may at times appear terribly complex, at odds, and confusing. Filling out tax forms, buying a house, changing a career, facing a physical disorder, often have more than a few baffling and anxious moments. The tempo of daily activities is on the increase, making quick decisions necessary. To deal with these conditions is to deal with the mental atmosphere that produces them. And coping successfully with any problem or challenge requires poise and composure, a mentality that refuses to be ruffled by even the most abrasive situations.

Christ Jesus exhibited this valuable quality of poise throughout his career. When his enemies would seize him to do him bodily harm, the Master quietly avoided them and went on his way. See John 8:59; When tempted by the devil, Jesus firmly turned back Satan's every suggestion. See Matt. 4:3–10;

Christian Science is in accord with the inspiring words and deeds of Jesus. It shows that what the Master proved in his healing ministry can be repeated today. Christian Science makes clear that in reality all consciousness belongs to the one Mind, God. Thought and expression in individual man are inseparable from this Mind. Man is spiritual; he is created by God, Spirit. He is not a mortal, material being with faults and inconsistencies.
