I first learned of Christian Science at a time when I felt confused and dissatisfied with what life seemed to hold in store for me. There had been much inharmony and friction in our home during my girlhood. My parents finally separated. My hopes of going to college were gone, and life appeared to be just a series of problems to live through.
It was at this point that I met my future husband and his parents. The love, joy, and harmony that were so obvious in their home naturally attracted me, and I learned that they attributed their happiness to Science.
I had not found that my religious training helped me solve my problems or met the needs of my family. However, in asking about Christian Science I learned that this religion was actually a beautiful way of life; and that spiritual understanding enabled one to pray effectively and turn to God to find the remedy for all problems. My great need at that time was for direction and guidance in human relationships. I wanted to be free of a bad disposition, which I felt I had acquired through association—having been around so much unhappiness, criticism, impatience, anger, and fear.
