Christian Science came into my life during my childhood, when my mother became a student of this religion. I am grateful for her steadfastness and courage in its study. She encouraged me to attend Sunday School and to seek a solution to every problem by reading the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The truth in these books has helped me for fifty years in physical difficulties, academic work, and human relationships.

This healing was especially clear-cut. I tripped and broke a bone in my right forearm. The break was obvious. We were due to leave for the country in a few days, and I didn't want to spoil the trip for the family. The Christian Science practitioner whom I asked to help me through prayer inquired whether I wished to have the bone set by a surgeon. I decided not to have it set medically, but to rely radically on Christian Science for healing. With the practitioner's assurance that I could go forward trusting God, we went on our trip. Fear, and with it the swelling of the arm, subsided.

There are many references to arm in the Bible, such as this one in Isaiah (51:9): "Put on strength, O arm of the Lord." This guided my thought to declare that man expresses strength and usefulness, and enabled me to use my arm. I attended to household duties, and within a week did outdoor work, such as mowing the grass. After this working holiday I was immediately able to resume tennis at the school where I coached games. I had been completely healed.
