Some years ago I was attacked by severe neuritis in my right arm. I could no longer lift it, and the slightest movement gave me great pain. I asked for Christian Science treatment, which was granted me with comforting words of assurance. Also, I now had enough time to study deeply the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. This I did, trusting in the divine healing power.

In the first pages of the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, the following words struck me (p. x): "The divine Principle of healing is proved in the personal experience of any sincere seeker of Truth." I turned as much as possible from material thinking to Spirit, God, in order to be receptive to healing, and soon felt the healing influence. The pain abated somewhat. I learned many valuable lessons. Confident, I felt united with God. A great joy came over me. With improved understanding, I continued to investigate these teachings of the healing Christ.

In the textbook we read (p. 368): "Neither evil, disease, nor death can be spiritual, and the material belief in them disappears in the ratio of one's spiritual growth." And further on (ibid., p. 393): "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government. Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." These and many other passages from the Bible and the textbook strengthened my spiritual understanding, and I experienced the healing day by day. After about ten days I was well and able to take up my work again.
