Several years ago it was proved to me, very clearly, that no matter how far from home we may be, we are never alone. God is always with us. For several weeks, while my husband did some business, we had been staying in a motel in a little town on the Gulf of Mexico. Our daughter was small, but did quite well in swimming, practically living in the pool just outside our door. One day she became very ill with fever, and had pain in her ears.

Away from home, I felt very isolated in coping with this problem. My husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, was concerned and said that since there was a medical clinic just across the highway, the next morning I should take our daughter there. I prayed in Science trying to control my fear that I might not be able to heal the condition before morning. I stayed with one of my favorite Bible verses and tried to keep all else out of my thought (Isa. 41:10): "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

The next morning the child showed no improvement, so I got in touch with a local Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to give her treatment. My fear was overcome, and our daughter was completely healed and free before the medical clinic opened. She has spent all her summers since then doing a great deal of swimming, and has never had any further difficulty with her ears. This was my first healing experience away from friends and my branch church, and I felt it was an important step in my understanding that I need have no fear in any situation I might find myself.
