Healing in Christian Science is the demonstration of our already present perfection, completeness, and satisfaction as ideas of God. Within each heart there is the inherent active yearning to realize this true state—to be good and perfect.

This yearning to be good was apparent in my thought when I was a teen-ager. I made every effort to express the qualities of kindness, gentleness, love, and goodness. Later, when Christian Science was presented to me by a friend, I could understand the source and origin of these inherent qualities—spiritual in their origin—and claim them as my own, to be expressed. I began to put into practice the truths taught and learned in my study of the Bible and the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. My efforts, encouraged and sustained by the help of my Christian Science friend, were crowned with success; and my faith grew to understanding and conviction.

While still a new student of Science, I fell down a steep stairway. I immediately sat up on the bottom step and declared out loud "the scientific statement of being" from the textbook (see p.468). A practitioner was called. Through her consecrated prayers I was able to be about my work immediately, preparing dinner for the family. Later it was found that my jaw was out of its normal position. Prayer was taken up again and the jaw assumed its normal appearance and function in a short time. In a few weeks all outward traces of the accident had disappeared. The practitioner and I put into practice this statement from Science and Health (p.495): "Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not."
