Healing a Broken Heart
It can seem that the world is coming to an end when you break up with someone you care for. That's how it was with me, but now I feel it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.
I had been going to the Christian Science Sunday School since I was five and had seen many kinds of problems solved through prayer. By the time I went to college I had to prove it could heal a broken heart, too. I started dating a young man and fell deeply in love with him. Everything was beautiful until he said he wanted to date other girls. I immediately fell apart, but I tried hard not to let it show.
I was a member of a club and was committed to spending that weekend in the clubhouse. Not only could I not go off and be alone to be sorry for myself, but I had to act happy. I kept silently pleading, "God, I just want to be alone." But really I just wanted to be alone so I could indulge in self-pity and self-justification. I had had spurts of crying fits in between moody calm.
