When Your Father and Mother Argue

When Helena came home from school and stepped through the doorway, she heard her parents arguing again. They were in the living room, so she went quietly up the back stairs to her room and closed the door. Finding a patch of sunlight on the floor, she sat down in its warmth and leaned against the bed and prayed.

The wonderful thought came to her, "God governs your mother and your father, and He governs you." She had always believed that God governs—always heard this in her Christian Science Sunday School. But now, when she most needed it, this thought came to her with a kind of authority that insisted its truth was for her right now. This revelation gave her a feeling of relief, as if a great responsibility had been taken off her shoulders. She bowed her head and said, "Thank You, dear God, thank You."

She didn't know just how this angel message was going to solve her problems, but she felt the presence of God, Love, strongly and directly caring for her. She was used to feeling that God's love for her came through her parents and others. But there was anger and self-will in her home, and sometimes her love for her family got all mixed up with feelings of fear and hate. Then she felt guilty because she was supposed to be loving them.
