Healing Principle Always at Hand
What a joy to know that God's law of harmony and its rule of application are always with us—always infinitely potent to solve any problem that human experience may present! Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered this law and named it Christian Science, states in her book Miscellaneous Writings, "That we exist in God, perfect, there is no doubt, for the conceptions of Life, Truth, and Love must be perfect; and with that basic truth we conquer sickness, sin, and death." Mis., p. 6;
Mrs. Eddy was a profound student of the Bible, and it was her deep, analytical research that unfolded to her the Science of God and man and their inseparable relationship. Through heightened spiritual perception she saw that God is not a magnified human being with mortal attitudes and motives, and that man is more than a form of animal life. A higher sense of the Scriptures unfolded the nature of God as intelligent good, as Spirit, Mind, Truth, Life, Love, the universal Ego, filling all space and including within Himself His perfect universe of spiritual ideas—man being the foremost.
Also, Mrs. Eddy uses the word Principle to define Deity. Although this term is not used specifically in the Bible as a name for God, she saw that its meaning is implied in a number of instances. It is intended to impart the sense of a First Cause expressing itself according to its own unchanging law of good; it denotes the unalterable beneficence of the divine Lawgiver.
