The Sparrow That Could Have Escaped
Early one morning I noticed a sparrow on the windowsill between an interior shutter and the window glass. The casement, about a foot above, was open, and the bird had evidently hopped in and settled on the sill. Now it was desperately trying to get out through the lower glass. Had it flown up, it could have gone out the open window. I could see that the sparrow needed help and I was able to release it.
How like that sparrow is human consciousness! Beset with problems, it struggles desperately to achieve freedom but often fails because of ignorance of the Science of being and the fear this ignorance entails.
Yet help is always at hand. God's power to help and heal, which Christian Science reveals as the ever-present Christ, is unfailing. The prophet discerned this help and stated as God's own declaration, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." Isa. 41:10;
