The Stability of the Divine Economy
In the affairs of men the elements of material economy—production, distribution, currency, supply, demand—may stop relating efficiently to one another. Then an apparent economic crisis follows. Christian Science explains to us how to look beyond the erratic objectifications of the human belief that matter is wealth, these objectifications emerging as inflation, stagflation, financial confusion.
Real wealth is spiritual. It is comprised of ideas, spiritual ideas. These ideas, individually representing divine Mind or God, don't fluctuate in value, for that which is their origin is eternally stable and immutable. It follows that the ideas collectively are not subject to mutation or drop value. Because Mind's ideas always relate to Mind, they are never out of concord with each other. These ideas—active, substantial, unchanging, healing, satisfying—can be thought of as the elements of the divine economy.
Divine Mind governs the divine economy with infallible intelligence. In its control of its ideas, Mind is never confronted with dilemmas such as may face the human economist. On the national stage it may seem that governments and their advisers must choose between a small range of unpalatable economic options—such choices as between a high level of employment and fast inflation or between a high level of unemployment and slowed-down inflation. Christian Science shows us how to get out of solely material frames of reference when we're faced by economic problems either on the individual or at the national or international level.
